The five types of web hosting – Part I
Today, there are so many choices when it comes to web hosting. The Cost also varies greatly depending on the type of plan you plan to get. Here is a brief explanation of the different types of accommodation available. I will starting with the least expensive to most expensive.
Free Web Hosting
Some companies offer free hosting. One of the most famous is Geocities which is managed by Yahoo. Although they are free, there are usually many restrictions on what you can do with it. Suppliers generally offer low disk space (less than 100 megabytes), the low bandwidth (less than 5 GB per month), no database has, like MySQL or MSACCESS and restricted email / FTP.
You may wonder why such a company offers a free service because it will cost them money to host your site? The answer lies in advertising. They put a banner on your site in return you free hosting.
There are also hosts sites that require you to subscribe to other services such as registration or renewal of a domain name with them before they qualify for it.
I recommend if you put a personal site or a new webmaster, and then use it just to play and learn. Otherwise, it is advisable to have a better plan once you become more familiar with it.
Web hosting shared
From shared web hosting means that your site is located on the same server that can be several hundreds of other websites. It allows you to have more than one site hosting account shared. The cost is usually fairly cheap cost less than ten dollars each month. They have fewer restrictions than free hosts.
Due to the fact that hundreds of Web sites may be residing on the same server, a server crash could bring all the sites down. In many cases, Webmasters perform some intensive applications resources on shared accounts. This causes the server to be sluggish and slow that affect performance of all sites on the same server.
I always recommend to get an account of shared hosting for small business owners and Internet Web sites that are still new and not much traffic. Once you feel the site is more established and get more visitors, you can always move to a higher plane.
Web Hosting Reseller
Reseller web hosting is similar to shared hosting in that you get a fixed amount of disk space and bandwidth of the hosting company and can accommodate more than one website. It allows you resell web hosting plans to your own customers. The difference is that you get to decide how to divide the bandwidth and disk space for each plan you propose. Cost wise it is generally the same as shared hosting.
